My 4th Newsletter

4th Newsletter and traditional full moon event in Korea

Hello there

(My 4th newsletter to you ๐Ÿงก)

How are you today?

This is your A.thentic Jong Hee ๐ŸŒน

As I mentioned on my post in IG, yesterday was โ€œJeong-wol Daeboleumโ€ in Korea, meaning โ€œthe First full moon of the lunar new yearโ€.๐ŸŒ•๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŽŠ

Honestly, I didnโ€™t know it was yesterday. I just wanted to drop by Gwangalli Beach in Busan for the Saturday night vibe, but I found out that a big event was going to be held there, starting at 6:00 pm. ๐Ÿ••

I was at a Starbucks writing this newsletter on Haeundae Beach; it was my first time visiting this shop.โ˜•๏ธ๐Ÿ’ป

Starbucks in Haeundae

Window view from Starbucks

For your information, we have five Starbucks (maybe more!) located only in Haeundae beach. It means Haeundae beach is quite a modern town.

(Honestly I used to go to Starbucks a lot when I studied music in the USA many years ago, and also in Seoul. But, recently I didnโ€™t go there much, because I do NOT like Starbucks : The exploitation of child labor in coffee production, Supporting for Israel, which commits genocide, even now!, (rumor? I think not). Additionally, the CEO of the Korean branch of Starbucks is politically insane and freak.)

But recently I go to Starbucks to write something sometimes.๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ’ป

I'm a cafe enthusiast. Whenever I'm in a downtown area, I visit a nice cafe to have coffee and desserts.โ˜•๏ธ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿง However, I try not to work on my notebook there because most cafes are small businesses run by individuals, and working there may not help their business. Instead, if I need to do writing work, I prefer to go to a larger franchise cafe.

(By the way, Korea's coffee consumption rate ranked Second, No.2 in the world in 2020. This is crazy! But imagine how many coffee shops, cafes there must be in Korea)

Ah, when I used to work as a screen writer and musical theatre writer in Korea, I used to go to Starbucks or other small cafes every day.

Some of cafe owners even became my friends. They are truly professionals about coffee and I learned a lot from them.

Ah, one thing, when you go to a summer beach๐Ÿ–, what kind of coffee would you bring under the parasol?โ›ฑ I recommend โ€˜hot coffeeโ€™ in a large cup. โ˜•๏ธ With the cool ocean breeze, the hot coffee gradually cools down, allowing you to taste its depth more intensely. I do this every summer. I donโ€™t usually drink โ€˜cold, iceโ€™ coffee unless when Iโ€™m really thirsty. ๐Ÿฅค

So, about the traditional event yesterday during โ€œJeong-wol Daeboleumโ€ (Daeboleum meaning the biggest full moon), here are some hidden shots from the event.

These pictures capture the moment I arrived there, and went to the fireplace, โ€œBurning the moon houseโ€

These pictures depict the event known as 'Daljib taeugi,' which translates to 'Burning the moon house'.

And these are the links of videos

(I haven't published this YouTube short yet; it's currently in private mode. Only you can see it first because you subscribed to my newsletter.๐Ÿ˜Š If you're unable to view it, please let me know.)

Like I said on my post on Instagram, on this day, people perform a ritual called "Jwi-bool-nori" or "burning moon-shaped houses" everywhere, and the purpose of this is to burn away misfortunes and wish for blessings.

One more interesting thing is that on this day, there is a belief that drinking a little alcohol brightens the ears and improves hearing,๐Ÿบ and people also eat a lot of five-grain rice and nuts.๐Ÿฅœ๐ŸŒฐ The reason is to wish for health and abundance throughout the year with these foods. So, in preparation for this day, markets and department stores sell a lot of five-grain grains and nuts everywhere in Korea.๐Ÿฅœ๐ŸŒฐ

Now lastly, let me say about the background story of the song โ€œSecret Wishโ€

In the song, โ€œComplicatedโ€, the guy said :

You want to see me again

But I canโ€™t answer your call  (your call)

You say that you just want to be friends

But something has changed inside me

Letโ€™s listen to this song again

Song : โ€œComplicatedโ€

(By the way, listening to my music on music platforms more frequently will help me a lot. If not, only enjoying this letter alone may lead to my weakening day by day, and I may stop all of my productions, including this letter.)

(To me, Instagram is just an โ€˜Evilโ€™ which I do NOT like at all. Iโ€™m just saying this.)

Returning to the story, she called him but he said he couldnโ€™t answer her phone call,๐Ÿ“ณ even though he had been eagerly awaiting her call, as he found himself liking (loving) her a lot.

Also, she said in her song โ€œSecret Wishโ€ :

I said last nightโ€™s call, it was just a silly joke

And she also said,

Youโ€™d never know what Iโ€™ve been through

Since I loved you

Song : โ€œSecret Wishโ€

So why did she have to hide her feelings from him, and what kind of difficulties has she been through till now after loving him?

Do they really not know they love each other?

And why did he mention his new girlfriend to her on the phone?

For this answer, Iโ€™d like to ask you one thing: Do you want to hear a 'light, romantic-comedy' style story, or a deep, sometimes sad, yet romantic story, like in K-dramas? You can reply to me here, or I will put up a poll about this on my Instagram post.

Iโ€™m actually writing a deeper story now about him and her, like a drama series, and I can create OST music for it if you're interested.

Have you listened to my album 'The Moon and the Butterfly'? It's featured in an independent film. I wrote the screenplay, directed the film, and composed the OST for it. Itโ€™s a sad, deep love story.

Here is one of the OST tracks.

And this too.

(By the way, at the moment I played this piece, I had been feeling so depressed for those days. After playing it, I felt even worse. A long story..)

I might regret it later to say that, but sometimes I feel a strong urge to write a drama. โœ๏ธ

So, thatโ€™s all for now.

Thank you for reading.๐ŸŒน

See you next time!

Thank you

Best Regards

A.thentic Jong Hee

Here is a surprise for you. It's an episode I will share now. It's about the drama I'm currently writing. However, I'll only reveal it in Korean. Some people might not be able to see Hangul(Korean letters). Please consider it as a bit of a bonus, like a teaser, as I'm still in the middle of writing. And If you can't interpret it, or can't figure it out what it means, don't worry. You will see it in English version in near future, hopefully. Thank you ๐Ÿ˜‰
